Q: Chris, how often should we be adding new blog posts to our website, and how many per month?
A: If I were focused on increasing my Google visibility, both in traditional organic search results and Google’s AI Overview, I would aim to publish 10 high-quality blog posts per month.
When I say “high-quality,” I mean content that is:
- Carefully optimized around specific keywords and search intent
- Genuinely helpful and informative for real people visiting your website
- Written in a way that demonstrates expertise and authority on your subject
- A minimum of 180 words, probably better to go 250
This is the exact approach I’m using right now, and the results have been very encouraging.
We’re seeing improvements in:
- Higher rankings in Google’s organic search results
- Better visibility in Google Maps and local search
- More appearances and citations within Google’s AI Overview results
That said, you cannot simply publish a large volume of AI-generated content and expect great results.
AI tools like ChatGPT can handle a significant portion of the work, especially if you know how to create strong prompts. However, I still find that most articles need editing, refinement, additional insights, and optimization before they are ready to publish.
The key ingredients are simple:
Consistency. High-quality content. Matching search intent. And enough volume to build topical authority.
Publish around 10 excellent articles each month, do it consistently, and over time you’ll improve your visibility in Google Search, increase your chances of appearing in AI Overview results, and generate more qualified traffic and inquiries than many of your competitors.
